To make a cranberry sauce, first pour a bag of cranberries into a colander and rinse them under the sink. Remove any stems, leaves, or dirt that you see. Then, set cranberries aside for now. In a saucepan, add 1 cup (250 mL) of water and 1 1/2 cups (350 g) of sugar, and mix together. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Stir continuously as it heats up to make sure all of the sugar dissolves. Next, remove the pan from the heat, and carefully add the cranberries. Return the pan to the stovetop and bring the water to a boil again. Now, reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer while the cranberries pop open, which should take about 12 minutes. Make sure to keep stirring as the sauce finishes up. Finally, remove the saucepan from the stovetop and let the sauce cool down. To chill it before serving, pour it into a bowl and refrigerate it for 2 hours. For warm cranberry sauce, simply pour it into a bowl, and enjoy! To learn how to make spicy cranberry sauce, read on!
